Here is a pair of mixed metal ear studs featuring the organic gemstone called Ammolite. It is the top layer of the Ammonite fossil that shows a colourful iridesence, sometimes in all the colours of the rainbow. Ammolite is sought after by people who believe in Feng Shui as it is regarded as the stone with 7 colours of prosperity. For other people like me, we are bedazzled by its iridesence. Ammolite is my top favourite stone.

Ammolites are only be found in the Bearpaw Formation, which extends from Alberta to Saskatchewan in Canada and south to Montana in the US. In the Ammolite mining industry, there are roughly 2 zones where Ammolites are extracted. They are the Blue Zone (which is some 20 to 60 meters below the surface) and the K Zone (which is the closest layer to the surface). K Zone Ammolites generally have crushed and broken up scaly pattern, like those of the “dragon skin”. This pair of Ammolites is K Zone Ammolites.

These Ammolites are whole pieces. They have no added back layer or glass top. They just have a good layer of polish. The colours displayed by them are green, yellow, orange and red colours. The iridesence of the Ammolites are best observed under the sunlight. That is when all the colours come alive. Please watch the 1st video.

The stones are set in 14K gold bezels  that sit on sterling silver bases. The sides of the bezels are textured by hand. The ear posts are made from sturdy sterling silver wires. The butterfly backs are also made of sterling silver.
