Description
Name : DUNE
Type : Pendant
This beautiful pendant features a natural stone called Montana Agate. It is found in abundance in the alluvial gravel of the Yellowstone River in the US.
Montana Agate is a form of semi-transparent Chalcedony. It mainly consists of silica, which gives the stone its hard texture and its milky to nearly clear background. Embedded within it are the moss structures in varying shades of brownish red to black that give the stone its distinct identity and beauty. These moss structures are inclusions or impurities and they are usually iron oxide and black manganese oxide.
The Montana Agate used in this pendant has mainly the brownish red inclusion but the shape of it is the interesting part. It looks like an incomplete drawing of a sand dune. It is such a pretty stone and I did not want to cover it all around with silver. I chose a prong setting for it. The back of the pendant is pretty much open, save for the parts necessary to complete the ‘drawing’ of the sand dune and 2 birds flying in the background. Yes, this is a scenic stone, created by Mother Nature. I merely added a little accent here and there.
