Description
Name : HANAKO
Type : Ear Studs
This pair of tube ear studs each have a stone that is quite rare and can only be found in Honshu, Japan. They are called ‘Sakura Ishi’ or the Cherry Blossom stones. The cross-section of the Sakura Ishi resembles the Sakura flower. The stone is actually a Mica specimen but it did not form from Mica, which has a different crystalline structure. The original crystals of this stone were Cordierite and Indialite which inter-grew with one and other in a complex manner. Due to the environment they were in, they underwent pseudomorphism where they were completely replaced by Mica but their external structure was preserved. The centre of the stone used to be Indialite and the ‘petals’ of the stone used to be Cordierite. Both specimens are well-formed and have naturally uneven surfaces.
The stones are set in clear epoxy resin for durability. The ear studs are made of sterling silver that have been gilded in 24K gold using the Keum Boo method. They have a fine brushed finish.
