This olive branch pendant is made out of sterling silver and it features a South Sea pearl with a hint of yellow green and a Peridot. This gemstone is instrumental in the design of this pendant.

The color of the Peridot is olive green. Peridot is also called Olivine. This mineral was named ‘Olivine’ because of its usual olive-green color. The French called gem quality specimens of this mineral ‘péridot‘. It means olivine in French.

The pearl, cultured in the salt waters of the South Sea, has a distinct greenish yellow splotch. When placed with the Peridot, its colors begin to ‘sing’. So naturally, I had to work with the both of them.

I built the pendant slowly from a scratch using wire, silver sheet and bezel. I did not prepare any wax model, primarily because sand casting is not my skill. It takes more time to build the piece but I think it’s worth the effort. I like that the design graphically shows off the pearl and stone.

In this design, the Peridot acts as the olive fruit that is still attached to its stem. The olive is nestled between two leaves. One leaf hangs free and beautiful from the branch, but the other has been bent into a ‘C’ shape and held together by a ‘nest’ (pearl) that was built by insects. The pearl sits tight within the leaf design. It does not move unless it is intentionally move with force.
