Here is a one-of-a-kind statement ring. It features a Fordite piece from an automotive plant in Hazelwood, Missouri, USA. It has a drip pattern (rare) amidst the more common multi-colored circles. This drip pattern is the main point of attraction for this piece.

Since the Fordite piece is triangular in shape, I like the idea of making it as the head of an arrow while the shaft of the arrow (or the ring band) wraps around the finger.

Fordite is basically vintage baked automobile paint slag. It was a waste product from the manufacturing of automobiles. Before computers took over the production of automobiles, the industry was labor intensive. Automobiles were spray-painted by hand and pushed into the oven to cure. This method produced a lot of paint wastage and the dried excess paint on the tracks had to be removed from time to time. One worker noticed the colorful psychedelic patterns in these blocks of paint slag, collected them and tried to sell them to whoever was interested in the market. There were people who showed interest, especially makers of contemporary jewelry. A demand for this waste material grew and since it originated from Ford motor plants, it became known as “Fordite”.

American Fordite is quite colorful as the Americans were more adventurous and keen on trying out different colors for their manufactured automobile. American Fordite is my personal favourite.

The ring band is made of sterling silver. It is open-ended and comfortable to wear. The area of the ring band right under the drip pattern is textured with multiple ‘drips’. They are all individually made from melted sterling silver wires and pieced together one by one.

Please note the ring size. It can be adjusted slightly to your preferred size.
