This statement pendant features a natural stone called Scolecite.

Scolecite can be found in Brazil, Scotland, India, Iceland and the USA, particularly in California, Colorado, New Jersey and Washington. Scolecite is a hydrous calcium aluminum silicate. It is a member of the Zeolite family and it forms in volcanic bubbles called vesicles along with other zeolites.

The color of Scolecite ranges from colorless to white, as well as pale shades of salmon, pink, red, green and yellow. It is transparent to opaque with a vitreous to pearly luster.

Scolecite is a popular mineral among stone collectors. The Scolecite cabochons are interesting as they often display a water scene or landscape. A good example of this point is the Scolecite used in this pendant.

The Scolecite in this pendant shows the sea (the white color part) hitting against the massive rocky cliff (the salmon color part). I’ve matched the Scolecite with a small orange spiny oyster shell. This brings out the salmon color in the Scolecite even more. The other embelishments are made of sterling silver and they represent the ocean waves.

There is a play of dark and light contrast in this pendant, with selective oxidization of the sterling silver pieces. This makes the pendant a lot more interesting.
