Description

Name : BLUE PORCELAIN 3

Type : Ring

This ring is the last piece of my chinoiserie set. The first one is the brooch, Blue Porcelain 1 and the second, a pendant, Blue Porcelain 2.

Like the brooch and the pendant, this ring not only has a chinois flavor but it looks vintage like as well. If you need a dose of color to perk you up, this is it!

The whole image was originally on a piece of paper napkin that is widely available in the market. The selected image was transferred onto raw polymer clay and baked. I enhanced the colors using oil paints.

This sort of image transfer project is popular amongst many polymer clay artists because it is easy to do with a lot of cheap and colorful paper napkins. The ink colors transferred onto the baked polymer clay are usually faint and blur. Some artists are able to accept this but most artists would enhance the colors with alcohol ink pens, since alcohol ink dries very quickly.

I enhance the colors here using oil paint. It takes an incredibly long time to dry but the result is worth the wait. Alcohol ink fades over time. The stronger the sunlight or the longer it is exposed to, the quicker alcohol ink fades. The colors of oil paint take a much longer time to fade, if at all they do fade. Some oil paint colors have a high lightfastness. The colors of oil paint are also a lot more intense. These are my reasons for using oil paints on my polymer clay works.

The frame in which the pendant sits and the ring band, are all sterling silver. The style of the metalwork is kept simple so that you can fully enjoy the rich colors and design of this statement ring.
