Name : KARA

Type : Drop Earrings

Since early history until the 4th century, earrings were a popular piece of jewelry among the upper echelon of society. Then the popularity of earrings declined with the fall of the Roman Empire and through the middle ages and the Renaissance but they did not disappear. Intricate hairstyles, hair ornaments and high collars were more popular choices for women back then. Further, many women wore head coverings which concealed their ears. The fashion style changed again in the 17th century, where women’s necks and ears were exposed again. Naturally, earrings made a comeback.

There were two main types of earrings in ancient history. Drop earrings were one of the two, the other were simple hoops. In the 17th century, pearl drop earrings became increasingly popular, but they were very expensive because it was difficult to find a matching pair of pearls. With the advancement of technology, matching pairs of pearls are more easily found and their prices can range from the affordable range to the very expensive range.

Here’s a little history on pearls as well. Pearls have appeared in religious stories for thousands of years. In the Hindu culture, pearls represent love, purity and a blessed union. In ancient Greece, pearls were given as gifts during weddings, in the believe that they would keep the brides happy on their special day. Pearls have always been regarded as pure love by many religions. It is therefore, not a surprise to find pearls being chosen as gifts to show love.

This listing offers a pair of inverted drop earrings in the classic red and pearl-white colours. The ear studs are made of genuine Japanese red corals, encased in sterling silver. In Japan, red corals are called Aka corals. The red color of this pair of corals is absolutely natural. They have not been dyed. These coral rounds have only been polished until they shine.

Hanging from these ear studs is a pair of white Mother-of-Pearl inverted drops with interesting lines of beautiful pearlescence. The red-white color combination is always a winner. The silver-works for these earrings are entirely handmade.

These drop earrings come with a pair of hypoallergenic ear backs made of silicone and sterling silver. These ear backs are earring lifters. You can see from the photos that the earrings don’t sag when worn.
